Buhari raises service year from 35 to 40, and retirement age

special pay scale and new retirement age for teachers has been approved by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).
The president also raised the teachers’ retirement age from 60 to 65 and the number of years of service from 35 to 40.
The gesture was declared by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, in Abuja on Monday to commemorate World Teachers’ Day 2020.
Nigerian teachers have continued to agitate over the years, including, among others, an increase in their retirement age, healthcare, and wages.
At the 2020 WTD celebration, the Minister clarified that the introduction of the new pay system for teachers was meant to enable teachers to provide better services.
