A peaceful protest is currently being held by some youths in Lagos calling for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The protesting youths assembled at the Ikeja underbridge bearing numerous placards lamenting police brutality and illegal killings with different inscriptions.
“Despite several changes announced by the Inspector General of Police, the youths in a signed petition claimed that” cases of harassment of civilians by Special Anit-Robbery Squad operatives have increased without any measures taken by the High Command of the Nigerian Police Force to resolve the fundamental problem of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad’s impunity.
They, therefore, recommend that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad be dissolved entirely.
They intend to take the protest to Ikeja Police Headquarters and to the House of Assembly of Lagos State and continue for the next three days.
